IL FIGLIO DELLE DANAIDI – Considerazioni sull’aiuto in matematica

L’Autrice affronta il problema del blocco nello studio della matematica, molto frequente sia nei bambini che negli adolescenti. Si interroga sulle sue cause e sui motivi che spesso rendono qualsiasi tipo di aiuto inutile o addirittura dannoso. Ipotizza che il fallimento dei diversi dispositivi di aiuto derivi dall’idea che si debba riempire un vuoto nel ragazzo. Si tratta invece di ricercare le capacità nascoste dell’allievo e accompagnarlo nella ricerca personale che la matematica può veicolare.

The Danaids’ son: helping a student with math anxiety. The Author deals with the block many child and adolescent students run up against when they study Mathematics. She investigates the causes and the motives which often make any kind of help useless or even dangerous and ventures that the failure of all helping strategies depends on the idea that the student’s gap has to be filled. What should be done, instead, is help the student find his/her own hidden skills and support him/her in the personal research mathematics can bring about.
