RIASSUNTO
Se l’inizio dell’adolescenza è facilmente definibile, il suo termine o l’ingresso nell’età adulta è meno evidente. Il mito di Prometeo può darci un’idea di quello che rappresenta il divenire adulto, sebbene l’organizzazione intrapsichica del soggetto cosiddetto adulto resti un ideale. Piuttosto è nel divenire adulto che possiamo cogliere ciò che ci sembra caratterizzare questo periodo fondamentale della vita umana, ma tale lettura non ci permette neanche di affermare che la fine dell’adolescenza sembri ormai «asintotica» o che l’essere adulto resti una costruzione sociale più che una scelta.

SUMMARY
Prometheus or the transition to adulthood. Although the beginning of adolescence is easily identifiable, its end or the accession to adulthood is less obvious. The Prometheus myth may provide us with some idea of what the transition to adulthood represents, even though the nominally adult subject’s intrapsychic organization remains an ideal. By reinterpreting it, we can identify what seems to characterize this intense period in human life, but this interpretation still leads to the conclusion that the end of adolescence must be «asymptotic» or in any case that being adult remains more of a social pressure than a choise.
